Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a teacher in a low-income bilingual school. My students are faced with several challenges, one of the greatest is access to books. As a primary teacher I know that I need to instill a love for reading in my students. This is vital to help my students on their pathway to college and career readiness. I have been able to receive one grant that allows for my students to take home books every week and now we are hoping for an updated library to help my students stay engage while I am pulling small groups for guided reading!
My Project
These materials will allow our classroom to have fun literacy centers. We will be using the calming pillows at our library center. We will use the theater for dramatic play that will help their learning in social studies, ELD, literacy centers and during collaboration time. The cart will allow my students to have easier access to our school library, and will allow them to be able to check out and return there books on a weekly basis. As you can see these materials will be used on a daily basis and allow for a more engaging and fun first grade classroom.
