My Students

Our school includes a large variety of students from various countries all over the world. One hundred percent of the students at my school receive free or reduced-price lunch, and we are a school-wide recipient of Title I funds.

One of my favorite parts of my job is seeing the change that my students undergo over the course of the year.

I am fortunate enough to see kids develop ways to express kindness each and every day. They use manners that weren't present in August. I have seen students who loathed reading turn into book lovers. A great part is hearing students say that math is their favorite subject because that was not true for me as a child. My classroom is full of faces and personalities that will impact our future world. As a teacher, I believe it is my job to do everything I can to make sure that impact will be a positive impact.

My Project

In my classroom, we have several rotations to help us learn math facts without becoming bored of redundant practice. Some of our current stations include a Dice in Dice game, a game called Knock It Off, Math Noodles, and some various computer programs. An unexpected favorite is making and quizzing each other with the "flashcard game" (which is really just practicing facts but the kids think it is a game since I earn points for facts they can't answer quickly).

Students have grown to love the flashcard rotation station because they see the almost immediate growth they gain as well as providing a ready-made, easily accessible tool they can encourage their parents to help them with at home, too!

I am requesting a replenishment of our flashcards they will keep as well as pens to use in this station. Lastly, I am also asking for a new card game to add into another rotation. It is like the "war" game, however students must solve two math facts (multiplication or division depending on their level throughout the year) each round to see who has the higher product, and thus who is the winner of the cards!

Please help me make this a reality and addition to my classroom for my students!
