Help me give my students flexible seating options and classroom supplies to help improve our classroom climate. I am hoping to create an inviting, safe, and exciting classroom that will engage students.
My 8th graders are immersed in problem-based learning to explore the Next Generation Science Standards. We are located in Howell, New Jersey, minutes from the Jersey Shore. My middle school students are an active bunch of thirteen and fourteen year olds with a variety of learning levels including gifted/talented learners, students needing additional support, and everything in between. They are a great group of students who love to learn and that is the key to it all.
My students are inquisitive, kind, and diverse learners.
Students come from diverse backgrounds and abilities. They crave choice, movement, and ownership of learning.
We are in need of collaborative learning spaces and materials to promote scientific inquiry and teamwork. We hope we are able to use the equipment for further discovery of science and engage all levels of learners in our classroom.
My Project
Flexible seating options will provide my students with personalized learning from the bottom up. This project will add more seating options to our learning lab, as well as provide supplies for creative assessment options. Students learn best when they have a choice, and creating seating areas and creative spaces will allow student autonomy. Standing desks, floor seating, and a cozy couch will create various learning spaces in the lab. Materials such as pencil sharpeners and white board markers are necessities that we do not have in our classroom.
I am excited to break the mold of what a typical classroom should look like, by creating a "funky" science lab for my 8th-grade learners!
This project will fund and complete the transformation of our classroom from a traditional science class with tables and chairs to a fun, students centered space that offers seating options for all learners.
The furniture and decor purchased here will create inviting learning spaces for all learners. There will be traditional seating, cozy futons, standing desks, and floor seating. Students will have options for moving to different learning areas based on their needs. Students will also receive learning tools vital for personalized learning.
