My Project

My students look forward to Fun Field Day every spring. It's a chance to move their bodies in a variety of ways and have fun with their classmates. However, rope burns and splinters from the old, rough tug of war rope bring the fun to a halt. A smaller, softer tug of war rope will allow my students to test their strength, grit, and determination without lingering sore hands. The friendly competition of tug of war gives students the opportunity to demonstrate concepts learned throughout the year in PE, such as respecting others, accepting the outcome of a game, and taking pride in their accomplishments. The more chances students have to practice good sportsmanship, the better.

The portable/adjustable net will create additional learning and movement experiences for students including volleyball, tennis, balloon-ball and any other activities students can create using this piece of PE equipment.

Striking skills, game strategy, and movement were key concepts in our badminton unit. The net will provide students with the opportunity to display what they've learned in a fun and supportive environment on field day and beyond.

Big buckets will allow the excitement of field day to continue without stopping to refill our small buckets with water for water relay races. These big buckets will be utilized throughout our school year in numerous other ways including throwing targets, modified basketball hoops, and rhythmic drums.
