Fun Factors in PE!

Help me give my students new opportunities to increase hand-eye coordination while having fun and getting exercise in PE. My students have never played lacrosse, so I can only imagine the excitement when I pull out the sticks!

My Students

The 800 students I teach in P.E. represent seven grade levels, three special education classes, and 13 different languages. We are a Title 1 school, so many of our families are struggling financially. We provide breakfast and lunch during the school year and summer, and multiple opportunities for extended learning.

Unfortunately, many of my students do not have opportunities to participate in extra-curricular activities outside of school.

My goal is to encourage more exercise by motivating kids to run before school and during recess times.

My Project

When I implemented a Frisbee unit last spring, kids were begging to take them home. These will be used to improve coordination while playing games such as Frisbee golf and baseball.

My students already love coming to PE, so I can only imagine the thrill of introducing lacrosse to my older students.

This new sport will also increase hand-eye coordination, tossing and catching, and teamwork. When playing team sports, I often need a few subs. The combo game bag will allow students to practice various skills while they're waiting to get back into the game.

I emphasize sportsmanship and leadership every day with every class. I expect kids to put forth their best effort, and with a positive attitude. I love being able to keep the momentum going by pulling out brand new equipment and providing experiences many would not otherwise get.
