My students need some items for a summer full of science! This summer we are focusing on solar energy and plant growth! The items chosen will help us build solar ovens and grow flowers. They need Greenhouses, Solar Print Paper, and SunArt Paper.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our classroom is a place where diverse learners with special needs create, learn, and discover through interactive small group instruction! The kiddos in my classroom are energetic and enthusiastic about school and always try their hardest. They learn best in a hands-on fashion with visual aids and manipulatives. If they can touch, move, spin, jump, draw, or build it the skills being taught come alive! My students benefit from the movement and sensory input which helps their bodies stay alert, on task, and focused.
My Project
The materials chosen for this project will help my students learn about Earth's Sun in a hands-on fashion that will help make an abstract concept more concrete. We will be learning about solar energy by creating a solar oven from a cardboard box, plexiglass, and a car windshield sun shade. By harnessing the Sun's energy our oven will create enough heat for us to make our own crayons. We will also be learning about the Sun's role in a plants life by growing Sunflowers in mini greenhouses and documenting/gathering data during each part of the life cycle.
