My students are smart, inquisitive, funny, and full of energy! These precious children make me want to go to work every day and I think about them all the time when I am not with them.
I work in a new Autism Spectrum Disorder Unit and for my students, everyday things that most of us do naturally can be distressing or at least present significant obstacles.
My students have the gift of being able to see and interpret the world differently. They are fascinated with the small things and enjoy many of the things that most people ignore. Their attention to detail makes them truly unique. They are also very creative and have an amazing ability to think "outside the box".
My students especially love music and we do a lot of varied activities to music but sometimes a quiet space is helpful because they can get overwhelmed quickly. We have a lot of fun in my class but I would love to make the environment more conducive for my exceptional students!!
An uncomfortable student, is a distracted and unproductive student.
Flexible seating encourages students to find their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive.
Our ASD students have an especially difficult time sitting in their chairs which causes many distractions during our circle times. Your donation will go a long way to providing a more positive and productive learning environment for these students. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They are much more engaged and therefore, able to learn more.
