Sensory processing is recognized as impacting participation for preschool children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). I will have my students use the discs for circle time so they don't have to sit in chairs that they find difficult to sit still in. Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, and fine and gross motor skills. Some materials that I am requesting are sensory brushes, fidget fingers, Yuck-E-Balls, and cushions. They will be able to manipulate the tactile items to alleviate stress. They LOVE big books and will enjoy story time with these easy to understand Rhythm and Rhyme big books. The most important item for my students will be the light covers. The bright florescent lights in the classroom are a stressor for my highly sensitive students.
