This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Going outside allows students to work on so many skills. With bubbles and chalk, the love of the outdoors is enhanced. My students enjoy playing with balls but we need more variety of items to use outside to work on motor skills. Playing with bubbles and chalk can happen individually, in a dyad, and even as a large group if there is enough to share.

It's important that children learn skills doing favorite activities.

This way ii isn't work, but rather it's fun. Children can learn various skills using chalk such as the correct writing grasp and experimenting how it writes on different surfaces (smooth versus bumpy). They learn hand-eye coordination, and it strengthens the hand muscles for better writing. A controlled pincer grasp and breath to blow the bubbles without popping them is learned while playing with bubbles. Also blowing bubbles helps your body calm and organize so students can be ready to learn. Then there's the fun of chasing and popping the bubbles to improve gross motor skills. Both activities create a time for students to interact and learn to share, take turns and appropriately solve conflicts. Students will wear sunglasses to protect their eyes from the suns harmful rays while playing these games. These skills prepare pre-kindergarten students from kindergarten.

I have requested bubbles and bubble machine, sidewalk chalk and sunglasses. These items will add the balls we have to use for outside recess time.
