My students need granola bars, crackers, and other easily accessible packaged snacks in addition to Clorox disinfecting wipes, so that my students are well fed, and provided with easy cleanup resources.
My classroom contains a very dynamic group of students ranging from shy and quiet to bursting with energy and excitement. While many students arrive joyful to be at school, some students face difficult home life dynamics that can sometimes make it difficult for them to focus on growing both socially and educationally.
My students love to interact with each other and to interact with me as their teacher.
Some come during class time to tell me a story about their weekend plans or about their family.
I love hearing about all the things the students do as it gives me a chance to get to know who they really are and what they like to do. Having more in common with each student assists me in meeting the students' specific learning needs.
Not a single day has gone by where, no matter what, a student makes me laugh and puts a smile on my face. It is one of my greatest joys to return the favor and create a place where students feel open, safe, and ready to absorb the lesson of the day.
My Project
A large portion of my students come from economically disadvantaged households. What this means for my students is that a snack is not always provided from home. Our school is located in a rural community which means several of my students have very long bus rides. With snack time at the end of the day, and taking place hours after lunch, it is so important to me, that my students have satisfied tummies before they embark one their 1+ hour long bus rides.
Not only is having snack important for students so that they do not go home hungry unable to eat several hours after lunch, but also, providing snacks allows my students to focus their attention on learning!
In addition to snacks, my students could really use disinfecting wipes. I have had many students missing school this year due to sharing illnesses in our classroom. Keeping my classroom clean and healthy is among the best way to prevent further absences. I would like to start this year on a clean, healthy, and happy note. Please help me make this possible!
More than half of students from low‑income households
