Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with the severely emotionally disturbed. They are the sweetest group of kids, who just have some things not working for them, whether its organic or environmental. Most of my students have been subject to extreme trauma. I want to give them everything they deserve. My students lack social/emotional skills. We are a close group. Some of my students do not have current-stable homes. I want to be able to provide them with education, social/emotional skills and life skills.
My Project
Some of my students do not have regular meals. Some come hungry to school. Having snacks such as crackers, cookies, and granola bars helps with behaviors and basic needs. My students can have trouble performing if they are hungry. Most of my students come from homes that are struggling to make ends meet. I even have one that lives in a car.
Some students get snacks as rewards also.
Many rewards are built into my program. Rewards are given based on behavior scores, if we play good behavior game or a special treat for when they make honors. Anything to help a student with social/emotional or emotional disturbance become successful.
