My Students
My students are part of a diverse, economically challenged neighborhood. Hispanic, Vietnamese, Philipino, African American, White and other students work together collaboratively and learn from each other. More than 60% are learning English as their second language.
My students reflect what defines America.
They are a multicultural blend of dreams, ambitions and drive. Many are overcoming severe obstacles including fragmented families, economic insecurity, crime, learning disabilities, mental health issues and language barriers, but none of that prevents them from wanting to succeed.
My Project
I am requesting microscopes and other STEM materials to help prepare my scholars for the Next Generation Science Standards that are coming.
My students deserve hands-on science and engineering experiences to prepare them for the jobs of the future!
These materials will allow us to experiment, build, problem solve and make discoveries. Reading from a book just isn't the same as being allowed to explore and make connections to real life experiences. My students do not get many opportunities to be exposed to science outside of the classroom; therefore this project is my attempt to bring science to them so that they can investigate the world around them, how it works and how they affect it.
