My Project

Middle school students thrive when given opportunities to explore learning through authentic, hands-on experiences. Unfortunately, consumable materials and specialized equipment needed for such STEAM projects often exceed the available classroom budget, especially now with education funding being slashed.

This project will ensure that every student can fully participate in units that I have developed and successfully taught before.

These materials will allow students to:

-construct working wind turbines to investigate renewable energy principles and compete in the Oregon STEM Hub's Renewable Energy Competition.

-build and test water rockets to understand Newton’s Laws and aerodynamics.

-engage in human-centered design by crafting papier mâché masks for a client.

-explore Native American culture through traditional basket weaving and jewelry design.

-learn about the coastal forests and wildlife by observing and documenting bird activities.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
