This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I have the pleasure of teaching math/science/STEM to two third-grade classes (60 amazing children). They range in diversity and ability. Some are autistic, many receive special education services, and all love learning. We are a Title I school, and all of my students are from low-income households, so they all receive free breakfast and lunch every day.
As this year comes to a close, it's time to prepare for the next, and I'm requesting materials that will enable us to hit the ground running from Day One!
This year, I implemented what I learned from the science behind "Building Thinking Classrooms" and incorporated vertical learning spaces, among other things. It's been a game changer, but what I've learned is that we need one more dry-erase board to have enough learning spaces and LOTS more dry-erase markers and erasers. We'll use the colorful pouches to hold students' personal materials (pencils, sharpeners, erasers, etc.), and we'll use the 6x9" pouches to hold the materials for each learning space (dry-erase markers, dry-erase erasers, and a few other things that we already have). We also need a heavy-duty electric pencil sharpener to speed up the process, especially at the beginning of the year. Our first science project of the year is an engineering one that will require the chipboard and rubber bands, allowing us to test different forces on student-designed bridges and buildings.
These few simple supplies will make a huge difference in our classroom. Thanks in advance for supporting this project!
