Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Do you remember Junior High? It is probably the most awkward time during adolescence. Many teachers shy away from teaching this age group, but I love it! I teach 77 amazing individuals who are struggling through this part of life, just like you and I did. My students come from all kinds of family backgrounds and have so many tough issues they are battling, but they are so special because they come to school excited to learn! My students are kind and thoughtful, always looking out for each other. They are creative and innovative, loving projects that require them to create something, like a recent advertising project or a past podcast project. I enjoy seeing my students excited to learn and am trying my best to give them further opportunities to grow as learners.

Furthermore, my school is transitioning to become a STEAM school.

We are very excited about this opportunity as we integrate STEAM into our students' daily lives. My students are looking forward to all of the innovative projects in their future.

My Project

Our small, neighborhood school on the southeast side of Chicago received a grant to become a STEAM school. We are lucky to be able to bring science, technology, engineering, arts, and math to our students everyday. But sadly, we do not have enough computers in the building and will be financially unable to provide computers to them.

Adding more Chromebooks to my classroom will help me bring one-to-one technology to my students.

That will help us go FULL STEAM AHEAD with our goal of bringing technology to our students. Chromebooks will enable my students to complete online projects, research, and classroom activities. Furthermore, Chromeboks will enable my students to keep up with their peers in other schools and districts that have more resources.
