My Students

There is a wide variety of learning styles and educational needs at our elementary school. A building of 552 students, we house both neighborhood classes and the highly gifted program for the entire school district. In addition to our variety of academic needs, we have a wide diversity of cultures represented within our ELL and Indian Ed populations, which make up over a third of the student body. I love getting the opportunity to better know each and every one of my students through the stories their art tells.

My Project

With a set of class iPads, students will gain instant access to visual resources, digital media, endless collaboration opportunities, and new forms of art making. Students are growing up in a day and age when digital literacy and technology-based, 21st century skills are integral to their education. The possibilities for technology integration and access to digital media exist on a huge scale.

The iPads could be used for something as simple as pulling up a reference image.

When students are creating art, it is best practice for them to have something to look at and refer to. On the other end of the spectrum, the iPads could be put to use creating digital art pieces, such as stop motion animation movies. There is also the possibility of feedback and creating an online discussion board through tools such as Google Classroom. Students could give suggestions to their classmates, critique a well-known artwork, or participate in a dialogue about any given topic.
