This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our library is the hub of the school and students visit the library for technology assistance, project based learning, to check out books, and to read.
The school is located in a high poverty area with 100% of the students on free lunch.
Approximately 300 students are currently enrolled in the school in PreK through fifth grade classes. The ethnic distribution is 97% African American and 3% Hispanic. These students come to school daily with the belief that they can become anything their heart's desire and with the right tools they can.
My Project
I am requesting Creative LEGO Brick Set and Large DUPLO Building Plates to help me build a Lego wall in our makerspace for our students. Having a makerspace is important because it will help our students see themselves as creators. Many students don’t have the hands on opportunities they need to explore and develop an interest in science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Creating a fully equipped makerspace is an excellent for students to be exposed to the idea that they can be scientist, mathematicians, artist, engineers, and computer scientists. By donating to this project you will help the students of South Kilbourne Elementary School see that they are creators and increase their academic success.
