Full STEAM Ahead In Music Class, The Final Chapter
Help me give my students a Sphero Specdrums workstation, including an Apple iPad, a 2-ring Specdrums set, and protective cases for both parts of the kit.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a Title I, universal free breakfast and lunch district. We have approximately 1400 students in our district, about 800 of those are in our elementary building. Our population is very diverse, and most students are from low SES homes.
They are budding scholars, creators, inventors, musicians, athletes, entrepreneurs, artists - really, the sky is the limit with these kids.
They are blank slates with their whole lives in front of them, and I am privileged to work with them every day! My students are extraordinary!
My Project
With the help of some amazing and generous donors, we have been able to procure 2 complete Sphero Specdrums workstations. Once we are able to return to school, we will able to use this amazing tool in music class to create beautiful works of art and music!
Two complete Specdrums workstations are a good start to help my students down the path and teach them how science, music, engineering and art are truly integrated, but it isn't enough.
With approximately 25 students per class grades 1 - 4, it would be difficult to engage students with just two sets that they would have to wait long periods of time between uses. Another complete workstation is an integral piece of the puzzle as we work to incorporate STEAM in the special areas, specifically music. Three workstations allows for student collaboration, and relatively low wait times for use in music centers.
This is just the start of STEAM in music class! This technology will have a huge impact on a lot of amazing young people!
