My students need snacks and personal care items so they will be ready to come to school and start their day. How can we ask children to sit, listen, and work hard if they are hungry?

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students all come from the poorest neighborhoods in the city of Boston. My third graders are the sweetest and hardest working children! They love to learn, read, and write. They make me proud every day!
My classroom is an ESL classroom, where all my students speak Spanish at home.
They are all new immigrants to the United States and many of them have had limited or interrupted schooling in their home countries. They enjoy coming to school each day to learn English and make friends.
My Project
My students are amazing! However, many of them come to school hungry every day. Our school provides breakfast, but many of them are still hungry afterwards. I try to keep a supply of healthy finger foods in my closet for my kiddos to eat when they need to. But I am having trouble keeping up with their needs. If a donor was able to provide me with enough snacks and hygiene products to keep my students comfortable, I know they would be able to work harder and stay focused all day. I chose granola bars, fruit snacks, toothbrushes, and toothpaste to pass out to my students to keep their bellies full and their smiles bright!
