This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a fantastic bunch of kindergartners from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

I teach at a Title 1 school with 100% complimentary breakfast and lunch; 100% of the students in my classroom are bilingual, with almost all of them speaking only Spanish; Most of the families are from Central or South America and came to this country focused on working to provide a better life for their children.

COVID-19 has had such a negative impact on our student's academic, social, and emotional states. As a new teacher to the district, one of my biggest goals is to help close those all-too-common gaps in low-income populations.

My Project

The snacks, cleaning supplies, socks, and gloves I am requesting will provide the energy and warmth that many of our students are missing due to their family's current financial situation.

COVID hit our community extremely hard; Too many families lost their jobs and income, often leaving our students without additional snacks or drinks and unable to buy appropriate clothing articles for the winter.

I will provide snacks in the classroom and other food to take home to their siblings. I will also distribute a pair of warm socks and gloves to each student to help keep them warm at home and on their commute to school. The cleaning supplies will help us keep our classroom sanitized to stop the spread of COVID and possible future school closures.
