Your contribution was used to purchase high-quality headsets for our students, and the impact has been immediate.\r\n\r\nIn a reading classroom specifically tailored for English Language Learners (ELLs), audio tools are essential. These headsets allow our students to engage with \"read-along\" technology, where they can hear the correct pronunciation and inflection of English words while following along with the text. This multi-sensory approach is one of the most effective ways to build fluency, improve listening comprehension, and boost confidence in a new language. They are also able to read texts into the microphone and working on their oral reading fluency. \r\n\r\nBefore your gift, our classroom was often a challenge for students trying to focus on their individual audio assignments. Our old headsets would break soon after I purchased them and none lasted more than a few months. Now, each student has a dedicated, comfortable headset that provides a quiet, immersive environment, allowing them to progress at their own pace without distraction. \r\n\r\nYour support does more than just provide equipment; it tells our students that their education and their journey toward literacy are valued by the community. We are so grateful for your investment in their future. As an English Language Learner myself I know the importance and impact this has on students.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your kindness and for making a tangible difference in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1766604246866,"projectUrl":"project/my-voice-mi-voz/9799452/","projectTitle":"My voice! This has allowed all students, especially my English Language Learners, to fully access the text alongside their peers. Using these books, we are developing critical reading skills such as character development, theme, making inferences, and citing evidence from the text to support ideas. Matilda also invites rich conversations about resilience, fairness, kindness, and the power of learning, helping students make meaningful connections between literature and their own lives.\r\nReading in our classroom is active, collaborative, and joyful. Students participate in shared reading, partner discussions, and independent reading time. Having a shared novel, available in both English and Spanish, has created a truly inclusive reading community. Students are able to engage with the story at an appropriate language level while still participating in the same discussions, activities, and learning goals. This has increased confidence, comprehension, and meaningful participation for my multilingual learners.\r\nSeveral students who were previously hesitant readers are especially enjoying Matilda. Some connect strongly with Matilda's love of books, while others are drawn in by Roald Dahl's humor and imaginative storytelling. My ELLs, in particular, have benefited from having access to the Spanish text, allowing them to focus on comprehension and deeper thinking rather than decoding alone. I've seen students laugh out loud, eagerly volunteer to read, and ask to keep reading during free moments. Your support has not just provided books, it has helped create an equitable, joyful, and empowering reading experience for all of my students. Students pop in to check in on the plants and sometimes water them when they pass by the room. I have one student who brings non-Garden Club members and he then takes them on a tour of the plants and teaches them about them.\r\n I currently teach AIS Reading for 5th and 6th grade.
