Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school is located on the Leeward Coast of Oʻahu, my students come to school ready to learn, create, and grow. Many of them balance long school days, extracurricular activities, and responsibilities at home. They thrive when they feel supported, cared for, and prepared, not just academically, but physically and emotionally as well. Our classroom values aloha, mālama, and lokahi, which are some of our schoolʻs Na Mea Waiwai (core values) and we work hard to create a safe space where every student feels seen and encouraged. For this project, we are requesting a variety of snacks such as Oreos, Cheez-Its, granola bars, and mints to help students stay energized throughout the school day, especially during testing periods when focus and stamina are essential.

Having accessible snacks allows students to reset, refuel, and return to learning ready to do their best.

We are also requesting a portable speaker to support outdoor learning, movement breaks, and cultural or hands-on activities. Music and sound help us bring learning beyond the classroom walls, whether we are doing brain breaks, practicing mele, or engaging in collaborative outdoor projects. I believe when students’ basic needs are supported, they are more confident, focused, and ready to learn. Providing snacks helps remove barriers that can distract from learning, while the speaker will help create engaging experiences that strengthen connection, culture, and community. These resources will allow my students to feel cared for while building positive routines that support both academic growth and well-being.
