My Project

Imagine trying to solve challenging math problems while your stomach is growling. For many of my students, this is a daily reality during our afternoon math intervention groups.

Every afternoon, my classroom transforms into a space where students receive targeted, small-group math instruction designed to meet their individual learning needs.

As a multi-classroom teacher, I work with students who benefit from additional support in building foundational math skills and developing confidence as problem solvers.

By the time our small groups begin, many students are tired, hungry, and struggling to focus after a full day of learning. For some, school breakfast and lunch may be the only meals they receive each day. A simple snack can make an incredible difference by helping students regain their energy, concentrate on instruction, and fully participate in learning.

The materials requested through this project will allow me to create engaging, hands-on math small groups where students can manipulate objects, practice skills through games, collaborate with peers, and receive personalized instruction. Alongside these instructional resources, snacks will help ensure that students’ basic needs are met so they can focus on mastering challenging math concepts instead of thinking about being hungry.

My students are curious, resilient, and full of potential. They attend a Title I elementary school where many face challenges beyond the classroom, yet they arrive each day eager to learn, grow, and do their best. They celebrate one another’s successes, persevere through difficult tasks, and never stop believing they can improve.
