Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work with an incredible group of students who show up every day trying their best despite facing challenges that most people their age never have to experience. Many of my students come from marginalized backgrounds. Some are living in group homes, some are in foster care, and others are navigating serious financial hardships at home. Even with everything they carry, they still come to school hoping to learn, grow, and feel supported.

Many of my students are trying to learn while they are hungry.

Students often arrive at school without eating breakfast, and some go long stretches of the day without access to food. It is very common for students to ask counselors or staff if they can have a snack throughout the day just to get through class. When students are hungry, it becomes much harder for them to focus, regulate their emotions, and fully participate in learning.

This project is focused on providing snacks, drinks, and easy-to-access food items that students can grab when they need them. Having these resources available will help students stay focused, feel cared for, and remain engaged throughout the school day. Something as simple as a snack can make a huge difference in a student’s ability to learn and feel safe at school.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
