Fueling Focus: Snacks for Our Classroom

Help me give my students a variety of snacks like Pop-Tarts, crackers, fruit snacks, Nutri-Grain bars, Rice Krispies Treats, chips, cookies, and juices to curb hunger and maintain motivation.

My Project

In our third grade classroom, we know that learning takes energy, and sometimes our students arrive at school very hungry or realize during the school day that they need a little extra fuel. Last year, I created a DonorsChoose project to provide a variety of snacks and drinks for my students, and I was incredibly grateful when it was fully funded.

When a student is distracted by hunger, it can be difficult to focus on math, reading, science, and social studies, and all of the other important learning happening throughout the day.

Having snacks available made a noticeable difference in our classroom. Students were able to grab a quick snack when needed, and return their attention to learning. It was also a helpful tool for encouraging students and celebrating their hard work and positive choices.

This year, I am hoping to provide that same support for my new group of third graders. This project will provide a variety of snacks and drinks, including Pop-Tarts, crackers, fruit snacks, Nutri-Grain bars, Rice Krispies Treats, chips, cookies, and juices.

These snacks are more than just treats. They help create a classroom where students feel cared for, supported, and ready to learn. A hungry student can have a difficult time concentrating, participating, or giving their best effort. By having snacks available, I can help remove one small barrier that may stand between a child and their ability to fully engage in learning.

I saw the positive impact of this project firsthand last year, and I would love to continue providing that support.
