This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are some of the most resilient, kind, and determined young people I know. Every day they walk into my classroom ready to learn, ask questions, and support one another. Middle school is a time when students are discovering who they are and what they are capable of, and I love being able to help guide them through that journey. However, many of my students also face challenges outside of school, and one of the most common barriers I see is hunger. When students are hungry, it becomes difficult to focus, participate, and fully engage in their learning.

When students have access to food, everything about their learning changes.

The meals and snacks in our classroom Cozy Kitchen help students refuel so they can focus during lessons, stay engaged in discussions, and have the energy to complete their work. Items like granola bars, crackers, and easy meals allow students to quickly reset and return to learning without feeling embarrassed or singled out. My goal for this project is to restock our Cozy Kitchen so students can continue to access these resources during the final months of the school year when focus, motivation, and stamina are especially important.

My students are special because of the compassion they show one another and the determination they bring into the classroom every day. They celebrate each other's successes, lift each other up during difficult moments, and work hard even when life outside of school is challenging. By helping restock our Cozy Kitchen, you are doing more than providing snacks. You are helping combat hunger, remove barriers to learning, and create a classroom environment where every student feels supported, valued, and ready to succeed.
