While many of our donors love books themselves, what they may not always see is the intentional skill-building that happens alongside the joy of reading. With our new texts, students are learning how to analyze character development, track theme across chapters, and use textual evidence to support their thinking. We focus on vocabulary in context, comprehension strategies, critical thinking, and meaningful discussion. These books allow students to practice making predictions, identifying conflict, analyzing author's craft, and connecting literature to real-life experiences—all foundational skills that strengthen both confidence and academic growth.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom is active, engaging, and student-centered. You won't see students quietly flipping pages without purpose. Instead, you'll hear partner discussions, guided reading questions, vocabulary exploration, and small-group conversations where students debate character choices and themes. Some students act out scenes to better understand dialogue and motivation. Others light up during whole-class discussions when they realize their interpretation matters. Reading becomes less about \"getting through a chapter\" and more about thinking deeply and growing as readers.\r\n\r\nThere are particular students who have especially flourished with these new books—students who previously struggled to stay engaged or doubted their reading abilities. I've watched reluctant readers become invested in characters and eager to predict what happens next. One student who rarely participated now volunteers to read aloud because she connects with the protagonist's challenges. Another student, who often finds traditional instruction difficult, has thrived in discussions where he can share big ideas verbally before writing them down. These books have not only strengthened academic skills, but they have also built confidence, identity, and a genuine love of reading.","fullyFundedDate":1763866158153,"projectUrl":"project/ms-robbs-class/9910848/","projectTitle":"Ms. Robbs Class","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Robbs","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10351140"},{"teacherId":9609237,"projectId":9921658,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our project, Beats, Books, and Better Math! Because of you, my classroom now has a Math Library section that students are genuinely excited to use. This library has become an important part of our station rotation, where students get to pick a book, read, and write a brief summary explaining the math topic and how math is used in the real world. It has been wonderful to see students take ownership of their learning and make meaningful connections.\r\n\r\nAccess to Flocabulary has been a game changer! The music, lyrics, and videos have allowed me to better differentiate instruction and support students who are musically inclined. These students are now able to understand and remember math concepts in a way that truly clicks for them, building both confidence and comprehension.\r\n\r\nYour donation has helped make math more engaging, inclusive, and fun for all learners. Students use them daily during small-group instruction and review activities, allowing them to work through problems, share their thinking, and make corrections with confidence. The digital date clock and timer have also been a big hit—students love watching the timer during activities, and it has helped them stay focused, motivated, and excited about learning.\r\n\r\nMany of the new materials are currently being laminated and placed around the classroom, creating a bright, organized, and supportive learning environment that students are proud of. On the very first day—right before Thanksgiving break—I was able to feed twelve students and their families with enough food to support them through the entire five-day break. The joy on their faces as we opened the boxes together was indescribable. My students eagerly stocked shelves, organized items, and cheered each time they discovered something new. For them, your gifts represented far more than food. They represented comfort, safety, and the reassurance that someone out there cares deeply about their well-being.\r\n\r\nThe ripple effect spread through our school almost instantly. More students have stepped forward to share their needs, and others have wanted to donate and contribute. Teachers have added items of their own, and even our front desk staff has been excited to let me know, \"We've got more food for the babies!\" Every day, I see more smiles, more relief, and more engagement from students who now feel supported in a new and meaningful way. The Cozy Kitchen has become a safe space filled with joy, dignity, and community.\r\n\r\nYour support has done more than fill shelves. It has ignited hope. This project has inspired other teachers to begin similar initiatives in their own classrooms, and my students are ready to help lead the way. Our Cozy Kitchen is now overflowing not just with food, but with possibility. Because of you, my students can learn with full stomachs and full hearts. I cannot wait to see the next steps for our kids as they continue to grow academically, emotionally, and socially.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us truly Fuel Minds and Fill Bellies.","fullyFundedDate":1763996389137,"projectUrl":"project/fueling-minds-filling-bellies-our-coz/9908967/","projectTitle":"“Fueling Minds, Filling Bellies: Our Cozy Kitchen Needs You”","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Chanel Jones","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10204791_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1763639048946","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10204791"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_2197","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":512,"numTeachers":52,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":27,"percentWhite":5,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":62,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"9.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":40.3,"schoolId":2197,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Broadview Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Broadview Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/alamance-burlington-school-system/broadview-middle-school/2197"}
