My Project

As we prepare for our Informational Writing Unit, I would love to connect students to topics that they are passionate about by exposing them to a variety of nonfiction text types and topics. I selected subjects that were in high demand from my last cohort, and that offer a variety of rabbit holes to dive into.

Young readers deserve a nonfiction selection that complements their lives, backgrounds, and passions.

At our middle school, we have the most amazing eclectic mix of humans and passions!

By colors, we are 45% Latinos, 40% White and 8% Filipino and others. Of this, 72% qualify for free and reduced lunch and nearly 30% are English Language Learners (ELL/ELD). Additionally, 25 % of my students are on Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 Plans and fall on a spectrum of neurodiversity. Help give them a selection of nonfiction books to fuel their unique learning needs and research questions!
