My students need a new rug, 3 sets of Giant Magnetic Pattern Blocks, 6 sets of Magnetic Numbers & Counters and other magnetic manipulatives for whole group instruction time.
Help us build a cozier, caring classroom community! My kindergarteners are eager and energetic students, and having a colorful, organized carpet area and new magnetic manipulatives will help us build community and make whole group learning time more effective.
I am fortunate enough to teach 20 active and inquisitive kindergarten students in the morning and assist my co teacher with 20 kindergarten students in the afternoon.
I work at a Title 1 school in Northern California. My kindergarten students are eager to grow and learn together and they come from extremely diverse backgrounds. We are multicultural, from many different family make ups and varied economic levels, but mostly socioeconomically disadvantaged with approximately 70% of the students at our school qualifying for free or reduced lunch. With our challenges we always come together each year as a classroom community.
My Project
The lessons and activities that take place on the carpet are an essential component to my kindergarteners' learning experience. Carpet activities help build a strong and caring classroom community and help refocus students' attention. A carpet with clearly delineated seating areas will help my students know where to sit so that they can focus best on the lessons and activities. Having this carpet in our classroom will save invaluable time, as energy can be focused into the lesson rather than into directing and redirecting students on where they should sit.
Having new sets of magnetic manipulatives that are larger sized will help us during math and literacy whole group time, making it much more interactive then our current supplies allow. These magnets and markers will also make small group intervention time much easier and fun.
This carpet and these magnets will have a lasting impact throughout the school year and in years to come!
Immeasurable time and energy will be saved, as we will not have to waste time reminding students where to sit or create our own math magnets that are mismatched and too small. We can instead focus our attention on the learning at hand and continue to build a caring classroom community that is interactive. Thank you so much for considering our project, Chevron Fuel Your School and other donors!
