Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students will have several units throughout the school year that cover mythology, poetry, literary non-fiction, and fantasy. When we read these genres, one of the areas of studies is to understand the cultural values of society. My biggest challenge is not having enough books to compare among the various genres of study!
By having various books that cover the genres that we are studying, my students will be able to analyze and appreciate various cultures.
My students would love to have more books that interest them when it comes to mythology, fantasy, poetry, and literary non-fiction. I think it would be amazing to have various books that help students foster the love of reading and help them understand various cultures.
My Project
In my classroom we are implementing the reader's workshop model. Students are allowed to have choice in what they are reading and are given class time to read books. When we study poetry, mythology, literary non-fiction, and fantasy, I encourage my students to have choice when it comes to reading these genres.
I am looking to add titles of books to my library that my students enjoy reading.
My students need more books on mythology, poetry, and literary fiction and non-fiction so they can have the flexibility to choose what they want to read.
By having more choices and books that can relate to them, it will allow me to encourage and foster a love of reading and expose them to various cultures and genres around the world.
