Equipment for physical education is limited in its availability at many schools, ours included. It is often easily damaged or lost and then not replaced. It is an ideal situation for a teacher to have his or her own equipment, and enough of it, to teach with ease and flexibility.
All students enjoy their physical education time and are very excited when an activity besides handball or kickball or simply walking or running around the track is offered to them.
Learning skills for physical games is not always easy, but students find that when they practice and acquire these skills they are much happier and fulfilled. They also find themselves able to participate in many more activities with family and friends.
Acquiring physical education equipment through DonorsChoose.org has made an amazing impact on my students. We are very lucky to have such generous donors who wish to make the time in our classroom and our school year a truly enjoyable learning experience for all!
These materials will enable students to learn a completely new game that most of them have never been exposed to! Having adequate equipment gives all students the opportunity to have more practice time on the court. Many of them have never held a tennis racquet in their hand before! Eye/hand and eye/ball coordination is a completely important skill for students to have, and learning and playing tennis affords them that opportunity! At our school, they would only be able to hit against a handball backboard, and for many of them, this means they go into "handball" mode and hit the ball incorrectly. Having two nets allows me to have students receive authentic practice and learn to play a real game, and I can also have more students on the court.
