Mrs. S. from GA is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need iPads to become the next urban movie-makers! We are going to take the iPads and use them as our movie-making equipment. Lights, camera, action! We're going to capture five different angles.

My students are energetic, inquisitive, and technologically savvy! One hundred percent of our school's population receive free or reduced price lunch. My students live in a highly populated, urban setting. Many of them never venture outside of their own communities and have limited exposure to all our city has to offer. The majority of the students live in rental properties and apartments, and too often, single-parent homes.
Many of my students struggle with reading/writing on grade level.
They really need help and it's both my job and commitment to help them.
Everywhere you look, someone is recording something: a video of a sporting event, a dance move or challenge, or a celebration. We plan to get in on the action! We're going to read lots of classic literature and create a film, based loosely on the novel we select.
Today's students are reading less and less.
This is one way for me to trick them into reading more; particularly classic literature. Students must read the original in order to render it new (ah-ha) and then they become intertwined in the plot and characters. That's when I know I have them!
The application begins when they begin to discuss and debate about the plot, conflict, etc. Then, they develop original ideas about how we can render the material new; breathe new life into an old classic. The iPads are one of the most reliable resources to use for recording and editing all their footage as they recreate a masterpiece.
