My Students
I work in a transient Title 1 school in an urban city in Virginia where I believe that regardless of a child's background, they still deserve equal opportunities in my classroom. The school that I am in serves a great deal of our nation's military children as well. The students I teach are so full of life and have an unwavering love of learning. They always preserver when lessons may be a challenge to them.
It is admiring to watch and see a five year old come to life when they realize they have learned something.
Their excitement is so contagious over "growing their minds" as I tell them, that it makes me want to do more as an educator.
My Project
I have some amazing reading centers in my classroom, largely in part to previously funded donorschoose projects. However, this year, I have more students than I have in the past so I need to add on to my reading centers. I am requesting a tag reader pen to help with fluency and comprehension for my students who are beginning readers. The puppet stand, puppets and other animals will also help these readers learn to retell familiar stories to their peers. I am requesting 2 additional cd players for students to use to listen to stories. Listening to stories is the first way to grow your love of reading! I will be using the alphabet beads to help support some of my other students in centers where they will sort, match and spell words.
I have personally seen the items I am requesting help students grow and meet their goal of becoming a terrific reader.
Learning how to read opens the door to so many other world opportunities. I can't wait for all of my students to be able to learn through these invaluable centers.
