Help me give my students counter-height tables, bright blue stools with cushions, and a collaboration whiteboard table for our Blended Learning classroom!
I serve an incredible, diverse group of teens and tweens from Santa Monica and the surrounding Los Angeles area. We are a Title I school and serve many socioeconomically disadvantaged students, and the primary mission of our school and district is to achieve excellence through equity.
I teach both Spanish and English Language Development at the middle school level and my goal is for all of my students to grow in language proficiency, literacy, and autonomy.
Student voice and choice is essential to creating lifelong learners, and I'm hoping to amplify both through a Blended Learning instructional model.
My Project
My classroom continues to transform as my instructional methods evolve. This year I am experimenting with Blended Learning in a Station Rotation model. Students will be grouped into cooperative teams and will rotate around the room working through tasks together and individually.
In my Spanish 1 classroom I encounter students with a wide variety of backgrounds and proficiency in the language--some come from homes in which Spanish is regularly spoken, while others have absolutely no prior exposure to the language--and I believe that Blended Learning could be the key to helping ALL of them grow in proficiency.
This model will allow me to reach each student in spite of vast differences in skill and ability level. One very important element in the Blended Learning classroom is a Digital Content Studio, and I have the perfect corner that is just begging for a makeover. With the addition of a whiteboard-topped collaboration table and a "Genius Bar" area comprised of counter-height desks and high stools for a laptop station, I have no doubt that this Digital Content Studio will increase both engagement and productivity in my students!
