From Ashes to Amazing: Rebuilding MHS's FACS Department

My Project

At Midland School District, our FACS program is a cornerstone of practical education, offering students essential life skills that can shape their futures. Recently, a fire caused major damage throughout our building, destroying much of our equipment and leaving us with an urgent need for replacements. The fire damaged or destroyed critical resources, including sewing machines, cooking equipment, and infant simulators. These resources are vital for hands-on learning, which is central to our program.

We are seeking support to rebuild our FACS resources and resume providing students with the practical skills they need.

Hand sewing kits will allow students to continue practicing essentials clothing repair and construction skills. Cooking equipment will enable them to learn about nutrition and self-sufficiency by preparing healthy meals. For the time being, the plan is to educate students in food preparation through the use of small cooking appliances like air fryers, convection ovens, and slow cookers.

Our goal is to restore and enhance the FACS program to its full potential, ensuring that students can once again engage in interactive, hands-on learning experiences. We want to give them the tools to build confidence, develop essential life skills, and envision a brighter future. Unfortunately, this will be a rather lengthy process and we want to continue providing quality hands-on experiences while we wait for the FACS department to be repaired or rebuilt, whichever the case.

Despite these challenges, our students remain incredibly resilient and enthusiastic. Their determination to learn and succeed remains undiminished. Your support will help us recover from this setback and continue to provide the life-changing education that our students deserve. By contributing, you’re not only helping to replace lost equipment but also investing in the future of students who are eager to overcome adversity and thrive.
