My Students

We are an Early Childhood building serving children 3 years old through first grade. We are Title I school and live in a rural community. Many of our children also suffer trauma from living in poverty, divorce, parents in prison, etc. We are working to strengthen our student social emotional skills in order to be self-aware, problem solve and get along with others.

Our students are fun loving, giving of themselves and have a lot of energy.

Due to being part of a rural community and not always having family resources, many of our students lack the opportunities to socialize and learn through play. We would like to give them as many opportunities as possible to become aware of their emotions, learn to problem solve and begin to think of others.

My Project

Our entire school is working on strengthening social emotional skills and relationship building with our very young students. With academic demands for even our youngest students we are being intentional about providing experiences where our students can concentrate on play, learning together and from each other.

With our young, high energy children recess can be a time where there is chasing, hitting, tackling and bullying.

In our area we have snow for many months which can hinder productive play.

With ample snow toys we can bring our learning objectives such as; sharing, communicating and including others along with large and fine motor play to the outdoors for a fun and productive recess time.
