Many of our students need to be able to do movement activities to help them self-regulate themselves in order to continue to focus on learning tasks. We need to be able to offer students ways to self-regulate themselves independently. By offering children sensory paths throughout our building, they may step outside their room, perform a quick sensory activity then go right back to learning. If a student becomes frustrated or just needs to move they will be able to let the teacher know they are going out to one of the sensory paths close to their room, perform the activity then come back and get to work. No one loses control and the other children don't have to stop their learning. Also, the teacher gets to keep teaching.
