My Project

My students love talking about their personal interests, food they enjoy eating, time spent with family, and their everyday lives. I would like for us to create a few different projects with these materials. I would love for my students to be able to create artwork that will depict their favorite memories, or eating their favorite foods. Some extensions to this idea are illustrating how certain foods are made or the meaning behind different food in various cultures. What food do they eat with their family? What food do they like to share with their friends? The colored pencils will help represent who they are racially. I remember growing up and only having a peach or a brown crayon to choose as a skin color. Neither of those matched my yellow ochre skin tone, or my friend's various skin tones, and so I just picked peach. We are so fortunate that we have so many skin toned art materials available on the market, and I really want my students to have that choice when making their artwork.
