This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach an extremely diverse group of students that come from all over the state, country, and even world. They are all eager and capable of learning despite the differences, challenges, and setbacks that we face on a daily basis.

My students come from a low-income district and are often told "no" or "that's out of the budget" when they ask about supplies or resources that many other schools and students take for granted.

It is frustrating that the students are aware that they should have more but don't. We work together to make the best out of every situation but sometimes it is just not enough.

My Project

So often in the negative behaviors in the classroom are the ones that receive the most attention from the teacher. The quiet students who help their classmates can sadly go unnoticed. On Fridays I have created a routine of rewarding students for positives behaviors and actions I see throughout the week such as participating in class discussions, helping a classmate, cleaning up without being asked, or being on time everyday.

Seeing my students faces light up when they are selected to receive the Friday Award has become the highlight of my week.

This is my opportunity to shoutout the students who might not be the most talented artists but try hard each and everyday. There are times when students will notice something positive I missed because they want their classmates to be recognized and this really warms my heart. Donations to this project will allow me to continue this tradition throughout the school year.
