My Students

My students love to be engaged, and they are excited to learn. However, more than half of my students come from low-income families. Their home lives are harder than we can even imagine. Our school is in the southeast part of South Dakota, along two different reservations. Throughout the year, we have students who come and go because they get moved around between their family members.

Coming to school allows them to expand their minds and enjoy being a kid without having as many responsibilities.

School is their safe place, and I would love to enhance their learning with different opportunities that grasp their attention.

My Project

More than half of my students have trouble learning while sitting still. Having a variety of flexible seating for them to choose from will allow them to find something that will help them focus.

Making sure my students are comfortable is an important factor in their success.

During their independent work time, my students are allowed to find a spot around the room that will best help them learn. Right now, I have students that like to sit on stability balls, and even under desks to help them focus.

The floor chairs will allow the student to sit on the floor in a more comfortable manner. It will also allow them to find a different spot in the room that they are more comfortable in. The wobble cushions helps the students who like to sit in chairs, but can't stop moving around. It allows them to have a little movement while staying in their seat.

I am hoping that these additions will keep my students love for learning growing.
