My Students

I am a 2nd-grade teacher in a Title I school. This community is comprised of lower-performing schools in the urban students in Charlotte, NC. I am a native who returned home after college to teach where I was taught. I have taught first grade for three years and third grade for three years.

My classroom is 75% filled with active boys between the ages of 7 and 9.

Students oftentimes lose focus on independent practice. Fidget seating and toys would be greatly appreciated. Fidget seating allows for students to move while still focusing on instruction. Please help me provide a new normal after returning to a school from remote learning.

Our school is nestled on the east side of Charlotte, which was once surrounded by booming business and new housing developments. Now, many of them are just beginning the building process. Our classrooms are exploding with students who are eager to learn. We are expecting more children to join us after the holidays!

My Project

Flexible seating allows the student to take charge of their own learning in our classroom environment. Students having access to wobble chairs in our class will increase working independently for our students. During independent work times they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, sitting under tables with clip boards, or sitting or laying on the floor with a clip board. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them.

The freedom of sitting wherever they choose allows for less disruption during small groups.

Having more engaged scholars that are less disruptive to their peers is my ultimate goal. Flexible seating in the chair for our Future. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. They can also be used as an alternative chair if needed!

In pervious years having flexible seating has helped our students' work ethic to promote on task learning. My hope is that the additional options will help us grow even more!
