Freedom from Period Poverty

Help me give my students feminine hygiene products like tampons, pads and baskets to place in every restroom to grant equity to all girls in our school and fight Period Poverty.

My Project

Our school is a Title I school, with over fifty percent of the population receiving free or reduced-price lunch.

The Italian National Honor Society that I sponsor has a project to increase access to feminine hygiene products for our girls.

It is important to provide students with the privacy and products they need in order to succeed and be able to thrive in a school environment.

We were helped by generous donors who believed in equity for all last school year and now it is vital to receive your support to provide girls with pads and tampons for 2022-2023.

Period poverty is the lack of access to education about menstruation or menstrual products. This is an issue that faces an alarming number of students in the United States. This is the third project we post this year, and we are already short of resources because girls are actually using them.

These pads and tampons will allow students who face period poverty to access these resources freely in the school restrooms, where we have already placed baskets to make all these products readily available for them.

This will improve girls' attendance since they would not have to miss school for lack of resources when they have their period, and it will help them to focus on their academic work.

A study conducted by Think and Period found that twenty-three percent of students in the U.S. experience period poverty. Additionally, an overwhelming majority of students felt that period products should be available to them in their school bathrooms.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
