Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am eager to meet this years group of first graders. I met some of them as kindergarteners at my school last year and I know they are a bright and energetic group of learners. I am trying to incorporate more flexible seating into my classroom this year and these surf chairs will allow students to work in spaces all over the room.
In order to meet the social-emotional needs of my students, I am going to create a calm corner in the classroom.
This corner will have fidget balls, play dough, books, and arts and crafts materials like the paper bags and crayons I am asking for. Students can come here to calm themselves down when they are sad or frustrated. I can also use the surf chairs in this area so that students can do their classwork in a more calming area of the room.
The students at my school have been through some challenging years the last few years. I am hoping to make my classroom a place where they are able to move around as needed and address their emotions, so that their brains and bodies are open to learning as much as possible.
