My project needs school supplies to make it possible for students to have the supplies they need to have a successful year. Supplies include pencils, notebooks, composition books, and portfolios.

Hello,
I teach in a school that has 91% free lunch. My 5th grade students consist of multicultural diversity. Many of my students speak Spanish and English. It is hard to get the supplies needed for students when parents struggle to support their families. I would hate to know that because they were required to have supplies that they would miss a meal at home. Some of our students only get their meals while at school.
I have not required students to buy things when they showed up in the first week with no supplies. I asked other students to share their supplies or I have bought them myself. This can be a costly thing and I have not asked the students who share to replace their items. I feel it is not their parent’s responsibility to supply for other students, when they are probably struggling too.
I have requested that a classroom supply of the items needed be purchased. All of these items will be used by the students to make their school experience a successful one without the worry of not knowing where the money is going to come from when they need supplies.
