My Students

I remember watching "Little House on the Prairie" & "Leave It To Beaver" with my sister when I was a kid. I used to love when the episode took place in the school house or classroom. It was so cool to compare their classroom to my classroom as a student. Well, I feel like I'm teaching in that era

I teach in a very urban school in a very large city.

My kids have had extremely tough lives...and their only ten years old. 60% of the students in my school come from foster homes or the detention center. These kids are pretty tough...but they're still just kids. They deserve every opportunity that their suburban counterparts receive. Later in life no one will care about their tough upbringing, they will only care what they know and how hard they work. Right now these kids are headed on a nonproductive, possibly criminal path. I need to make a difference NOW.

My Project

My students have had zero exposure to technology. I still teach on a blackboard & use white chalk. It is so difficult to grab & keep these kids attention when they are just so totally disinterested. I know that the interaction that this projector will provide will be essential to their development as young, educated men who some day will be contributors to our society. There is just so much information out there that they have no idea about. This is just not fair. I have requested, if not begged numerous times for an update on our classroom technology...all to no avail. I need your help.
