Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Twenty excited fourth grade historians at PS 157 in the Bronx learn about the different Native Americans tribes in the United States, their geographical locations, and their impact to the colonization of New York State. All of these students coming from low socio economic families, when engaged make the exploration of history a part of their life. Providing them with visual, exciting and engaging hands on experiences provide meaningful learning of History. A rug, featuring the 50 states, will help students visualize the locations of the different Native American Tribes that make up the United States. They will be able to identify where the different tribes lived and be able to recognize which tribes had a bigger impact on the colonization of New York State. The fact that this rug will be located in our classroom will be a constant visual. Students will be able to constantly wonder and reaffirm what they have learned about Native Americans and the development of America. This rug will be an engaging and valuable addition to the learning experience of my fourth graders throughout the year, as we discuss geography of the United States as well as other historical events.
