My Students

My classroom is filled with 14 active preschoolers; most have limited language. Each of them requires special education services and is placed in my classroom for specific instruction. They all need one-on-one teaching instruction, which often helps them progress quickly.

My students are eager to learn and thrive in a classroom environment.

However, most of my students need a device or picture icons to communicate. Each child wants so badly to share but cannot always do that with the spoken word.

My Project

Teaching a non-verbal student to communicate can be one of the most challenging things to accomplish, especially with limited resources. With iPads, I will provide a device for a student who cannot communicate verbally. Often my students become frustrated because they cannot as for their wants and needs. It often becomes a guessing game, which makes the student even more upset. My classroom is designed to help students like this. However, we are often limited with the resources we have available. If we had access to Assistive technology such as an iPad, my students would communicate their wants and needs. This classroom is used to help children learn to share, follow directions, and ultimately transition into a less restrictive environment.

Often, I wonder what I can do to better my students learning environment.

Being able to communicate with them would be critical. My goal is to provide the necessary tools to teach my students and give them the best quality of life they deserve. By obtaining iPads, I can do just that.
