it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The Leaders of the future will be READERS. Think about it....most information in today's jobs is transmitted via email. Those that lead tend to read the information first. My students struggle to understand what they read. Eighty five percent of my students speak/read a language other that English. They struggle to keep up at all. They need a boost to get into the world of reading for understanding.
Older elementary students SAY that they don't like to read.
What they are really saying is that they are overwhelmed with books that have lots and lots of words and no pictures. Enter ....Graphic novels!
These are novels written in a comic book type format.
All the words...and pictures to support the action! Graphic novels bridge a gap for struggling readers and second language students.
My goal is to teach my students to see the world they live in reflected in written form. When these students connect with something in writing, they feel that they, too, are part of this world. Please help them. Thank you so much.
