Students will be able to observe worms and take quantitative measurements before and after the addition of the worms. Later in the year, students will experience chemistry by mixing small amounts of the agents (borax, baking soda and red cabbage juice, among others) to see the color changes and reactions that will develop. Paper plates, cups, and zip-top baggies allow our scientists to stay organized, and keep wet materials contained. They allow us to turn our classroom into a science lab and back to a classroom in a quick change. Our students are scientists for one hour a day, and messy science materials don't mix well with novels and math textbooks.
