My Project

My students come from an enormous range of backgrounds. Many are children of immigrants, and even more are immigrants themselves, as well as the typical students you would find in any American district. As such, some students do not have access to hygiene products at home that they might need throughout the day.

It is a well-known fact that students learn better when they feel safe and cared for.

Part of that safety and caring is knowing that they can access hygienic products without fearing judgement for what they may or may not have. While our building has a stock of basics that students are welcome to ask for, a lot of my students are too nervous to use the stock because they feel ashamed to ask or they are scared of speaking to an adult they don't know.

For the last two years, I have provided a "Care Center" out of my own pocket to provide these necessities to students who would otherwise go without. These items are completely free for my students to take, and they do not need to ask before they use anything in the Care Center. My students are incredibly grateful for what I provide, but I am finding it increasingly difficult to afford on my own. Successfully funding this project would mean I could stock the Care Center in a sturdier organizer and build up a stock of products that should last me at least a few years.
